S4T: Station for Transformation (European Urban Initiative - EUI) 2024-2027
Francesca Forno
The alpine town of Rovereto and its functional urban area face the challenge of rapidly adapting to the effects of climate change and effectively mitigating the resulting loss of biodiversity, which is closely linked to the territorial cultural heritage. To address this challenge, the project aims to repurpose the empty main building of the train station and its surrounding area into a public-civic hub for joint actions on climate change, biodiversity loss and heritage regeneration in line with the EUI pillar of "Understand, Adapt and Apply". The centrality of the train station, a key mobility hub for over 135,000 inhabitants, makes it an ideal public space for the co-creation of a territorial think&action tank. For the first time, a railway station is transformed from a mere transportation hub, into a multiplier and catalyst to support the local community in facing contemporary challenges. Thus, the station’s historical importance for local development and identity is regenerated by turning it into a cross- borders cohesion hub. To activate our station’s potential, we will create a replicable pilot hub including: A) Biodiversity Kiosk; B) Climate & Biodiversity Co-Creation Space; C) Climate Canteen; D) Climate & Biodiversity Community Space; E) S4T on Wheels as outreach device. These spaces will serve as interactive venues for training, co-design, co-production and knowledge transfer for promising public, civic and economic initiatives on climate change and biodiversity.

Nutrire Trento [Feeding Trento]
Francesca Forno
Nutrire Trento (Feeding Trento) is a project promoted by the Municipality and the University of Trento with the aim to search for solutions to the three major food paradoxes of today: Hunger vs. Obesity | Food vs. Fuel | Waste vs. Starvation. It involves farmers, consumers, civil society groups, researchers and local administrators around the goal of improving the quality of food that supplies the city and provide fair remuneration to the actors in the local food chain. The project embraces a community-engaged research approach, which involves a collaborative process between academic researchers and community partners with the aim to co-create and disseminate knowledge to strengthening the well-being of the community.
